In March, ebm-papst, the motor and fan specialist of Mulfingen, Germany, is presenting a new series of AC and EC axial fans with HyBlade® blades in Milan at the Mostra Convegno 2008 tradeshow.
Axial fans are often used in the field of refrigeration and air-conditioning technologies, for example in heat exchangers and condensers. The use of external rotor motors, which allow the fan blades to be attached directly to the rotor, has proven to be particularly well suited. In addition to compact designs, users expect low noise levels and maximum air flow at the same time. Conventional fan blades made of steel or aluminum sheet, however, have specific limitations due to the properties of these materials; monolithic blades of uniform plate thickness place restrictions on design potential. Innovative design principles and new combinations of materials are now opening doors to interesting possibilities.
In March, ebm-papst, the motor and fan specialist of Mulfingen, Germany, is presenting a new series of AC and EC axial fans with HyBlade® blades (figure 1) in Milan at the Mostra Convegno 2008 tradeshow. These blades introduce significant improvements in the noise behavior and efficiency in axial fans. Diameters in this series now range from 500 mm to 800 mm for the AC axial fans and from 560 mm to 800 mm for the EC axial fans.
Extensive testing has confirmed the benefits that can be attained by using various materials in a symbiosis: The aluminum inlet receives the mechanical forces and ensures a durable connection to the rotor, while the plastic encapsulates the carrier structure, giving the blade its aerodynamically optimum shape. At the same time, the plastic jacket also has a positive effect on the total weight of the fan.
